29 April 2010: GO – Malta’s leading quad-play communications provider – has just pledged its full support to the local charitable institution, Fra Diego Home. GO has made a donation that will go towards meeting the huge costs of a massive refurbishment project in the pipeline at the home. Meanwhile for the second year running children residing at the Home are reaping the full benefits of high speed internet and digital terrestial television – technologically-advanced services powered by GO.
The initiative involved in supporting Fra Diego Home is strongly in line with GO’s social commitment to support projects and activities with a strong community-focussed significance. Fra Diego Home houses an ageing community of Franciscan Sisters, who, despite their advanced age, are dedicated to the general welfare and social well-being of the 20 children entrusted in their care. The Home also hosts 12 elderly women who have resided there since childhood.
In addition to residential facilities, Fra Diegu runs a Day Care Centre where the Sisters look after another 10 children aged between 3 and 11 years –as part of the ongoing challenge to alleviate acute problems and major set-backs experienced by certain disadvantaged families in the local community.
“GO is delighted to have the opportunity of giving Fra Diegu Home its support yet again - this time in the form of a donation towards the refurbishment of the Home itself. Besides this recent financial donation, GO has - for several months - sponsored high-speed internet and tv service at Fra Diego Home – an initiative targeted to improve living conditions for the child-residents at Fra Diego Home,” said Priscilla Pirotta from GO’s Communications team.
“Supporting Fra Diego Home underpins GO’s ongoing drive to provide an enhanced quality of life for the society in which it operates,” she said.
During the presentation held at Fra Diego Home in Hamrun, Sr Josephine Xuereb, Provincial Superior said: “The struggle to make ends meet has now become the order of the day at the Home and substantial funds are desperately needed to look after the children and the elderly women alike.”
Fra Diego Home was grateful to the caring companies - such as GO - and the individuals who had joined forces to raise funds that would enable the refurbishment programme at Fra Diego Home to kick off in the shortest time possible.
