19/12/2008 GO and Vodafone Malta implement contingency agreement for Internet services

Friday 19 December 2008, 12:15: Following an ongoing process which took place over the past months to provide mutual international connectivity backup, GO and Vodafone Malta today implemented an agreement that sees the adoption of a contingency plan by the respective companies in view of the fault on GO's international submarine fibre-optic cable, and future eventualities.

Both parties have agreed and are already implementing the technical process to follow, with the result that Vodafone is already providing international bandwidth capacity to GO in order to adequately restore its services. Additional capacity is being provided and, as a result, broadband services are being restored.

Over the past hours, officials and engineers of both companies were in direct contact to implement such contingency measures.

The Malta Communications Authority has at all stages been duly informed about the above important developments and is supporting the implementation of the agreement.
