Access Technologies
GO Online services can be accessed
through these technologies:
- Circuit switch data (CSD)
- General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)
- EDGE
- 3G
The main difference between these technologies is the speed at which
you can access the information and the enabling devices.
3G
GO Mobile is now offering 3G and HSDPA (3.5G) access,
giving you the opportunity to enjoy a faster and more efficient mobile telephony service across the board.
Experience new services like video-calling as well as increased efficiency in existing services like data transmission
on your handset or device.
EDGE
EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) reaches speeds approximately
four times those of GPRS. Several handsets are EDGE-enabled. EDGE
gives an improved web browsing experience as well as faster data
access
GPRS
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) reaches typical speeds of 40kbits/sec.
Most new phones on the market are GPRS enabled thus allowing faster
WAP access via GPRS. Some PDAs emerging on the market are also GPRS
enabled. The ergonomics of the PDA makes it easier to browse both
WAP sites and Internet/ Intranet sites.
Alternatively, one can attach a GPRS
enabled Wireless PC card to either a PDA or a laptop to achieve
wireless connectivity to the Internet/ Intranet or office
environment.
Should you be roaming and GPRS coverage is not available,
most handsets, PDAs and Wireless PC cards allow you to connect
via CSD, albeit at slower speeds.
CSD
CSD (Circuit Switch Data) speeds reach a maximum of 14.4kbits/sec.
Most WAP phones available on the market support WAP over CSD
technology.
