Over the past couple of months, almost every business has had to quickly adapt to remote working. Business owners across the world have faced the monumental challenge of ensuring homebound employees have the tools they need to work at their best—covering everything from a suitable work environment to a secure internet connection.
But as remote working becomes less of a temporary measure, and more of a new normal, many businesses are finding their long-term technical requirements changing.
That’s why we’ve been working hard to ensure our customers can access our services without any disruption—as well as working with those that need additional support during these difficult times.
Supporting a new level of traffic
In the past 11 weeks, we’ve seen the volume of customers using our Plug’n’GO solution rise by a massive 45%. As an out-of-the-box internet service that uses the fast 4G speeds of Malta, it’s helping businesses quickly connect employees who are struggling to secure a reliable internet connection.
And it’s not just Plug’n’GO that’s seen an increase. Our Speedboost service has seen usage rise by 36%, International Bandwidth has increased by 47%, and Fixed Voice by 50%.
It’s no surprise either. Without the option of face-to-face meetings, businesses are increasingly reliant on conference platforms like Zoom to help employees connect with each other daily. In fact, Zoom has seen a huge influx of users as well during this crisis, reportedly reaching over 200 million users a day. But frequent video calling can put a strain on your employees’ bandwidth—and those living in remote locations with weak connections may struggle.
Plus, as our customers in sectors like banking and gaming continue to see a rise in consumer demand, they’ve needed more flexible bandwidth options to help deliver their services.
We’ve been doing all we can to ensure we’re meeting these peaks in demand, so our customers can continue operating as normal. Whether it’s providing alternative connectivity solutions to home-workers with slow DSL lines or even just offering our expert advice—we’re on-hand to help.
Helping teams stay connected
For businesses without an in-house IT team, as well as those that have never had to accommodate for remote working, the challenge has been even greater.
Over the past couple of months, we’ve been working with these customers to understand their new requirements and help them adapt to the disruption. We’ve helped a lot of customers install vPBX—our virtual PBX system that enables employees to access their business phone number from wherever they are—to ensure they can offer an uninterrupted service to their own customers.
And we’re also helping them keep their teams connected to their offices. We’ve worked with businesses to set up VPNs to keep their sensitive data secure while employees are working remotely, and helped teams connect to office servers from their homes.
Unique services for uncertain times
Some of our customers are providing essential services to the general public, so we’ve been working hard to ensure they have everything they need to do their best work.
We’ve been collaborating with key government services to build contact centres specifically designed for delivering fast support to citizens—even working with the Government to create a dedicated 111 line where citizens can get accurate, up-to-date information about COVID-19. Plus, we’re also rolling out free bundles of minutes to frontline workers to ensure they can stay connected to those that need them.
And to keep the communities around us connected, we’ve also been working with Invisible Hands to create a phone line that connects volunteers with isolated or vulnerable citizens who need assistance.
It’s a learning curve for everyone
If there’s one thing we’ve learnt during this disruption, it’s that everyone’s learning together. New challenges arise every day, and nobody can be certain of what the future looks like.
