Malta’s geography has always shaped its destiny. And as an island nation, connectivity was never a luxury but essential to economic growth, global participation and everyday life.

Understanding this early on, GO positioned itself at the forefront of Malta’s international connectivity, ensuring the country is equipped with fast, resilient and secure links to the rest of the world.

Over the past two decades, GO has invested more than €40 million in international infrastructure; investments that continued to strengthen Malta’s attractiveness as a destination for global businesses and supported the growth of its digital economy.

Today, GO’s international network underpins everything from roaming and international calling to enterprise-grade data services, reinforcing Malta’s position as a reliable, connected hub in an increasingly fast-moving digital landscape.

GO’s international footprint is far-reaching. The company partners with more than 500 mobile network operators worldwide, serving more than 190 territories and manages an ever-increasing number of international voice interconnect agreements. This ensures seamless communication for GO customers wherever in the world they need to reach or wherever in the world they are travelling.

In 2024 alone, GO supported more than 40 million minutes of international calling and facilitated way north of 8 billion megabytes of both inbound and outbound roaming data, evidence of the scale and efficiency of its global operations.

“At the heart of GO’s network is a robust and resilient infrastructure,” says Patrick Gatt, GO’s Chief Officer of Wholesale since May 2025, who has overseen much of the company’s international expansion.

GO’s architecture includes three fully independent IP providers and soon, close to a Terabit of lit up international data capacity, ensuring both businesses and consumers experience high-speed, secure and uninterrupted connectivity.

These capabilities are strengthened by GO’s three diverse submarine cables: two linking Malta to Sicily and a third connecting the island to France, Egypt and the Far East.

“This diversity does not just increase capacity but it also enhances resilience, enabling us to maintain service continuity even in cases of localised disruption,” explains Gatt.

GO’s international capabilities have become indispensable for Malta’s business community, especially SMEs and tech-driven startups that rely on enterprise-grade connectivity without the heavy investment typically required.

“Through wholesale services in roaming, international and local data, messaging and voice, we enable companies to operate globally with the reliability usually associated with much larger markets. These flexible solutions support growth across sectors including logistics, finance, technology and retail,” adds Gatt.

GO’s strategy is global in reach yet firmly rooted in Malta’s needs.

“Our investment is not only in infrastructure. We focus on enabling people and businesses in Malta to engage seamlessly with the world and this is why we prioritise strategic alliances, innovation in services and initiatives that enhance operational efficiency while creating value for our partners.”

GO’s network supports every layer of Malta’s digital economy. From facilitating international calls and powering high-speed data for enterprises to ensuring tourists and residents enjoy reliable roaming. A combination of GO’s robust submarine connectivity, multiple IP transit routes and global partnerships allows the island to operate as an internationally connected hub despite its geographical isolation.

“Technology continues to evolve, and so will we,” Gatt says.

GO is actively expanding its international reach, adding capacity and exploring new technologies to meet rising digital demands. With global connectivity now central to both consumer and business services, GO’s network acts as a critical bridge that links Malta to global opportunities.

“As Malta’s leading telecommunications provider, we have the privilege and the responsibility to invest strategically and intuitively. At the end of the day, our mission remains clear: we make sure everyone is connected, so that no one is ever left behind,” concludes Gatt.
