Moving to Malta
3G was launched more than 20 years ago and has served us well, but today it’s no longer efficient for the way we use our phones. As part of our commitment to delivering faster, more reliable and future-ready connectivity, we’ll soon be switching off our 3G network. This move is also part of a global transition, as operators worldwide are retiring 3G to make way for next-generation networks.
By phasing out 3G, we can focus on building a stronger, faster and more sustainable network for everyone. This change allows us to:
Get quicker speeds, smoother browsing and seamless streaming
Enjoy stronger and more reliable signal across Malta and Gozo
Experience crystal-clear voice calls by enabling VoLTE on your device at no extra cost
Access the latest digital services and handle growing mobile data needs

We’re moving away from outdated technology to reduce energy use
Here’s how to get ready, based on your device and SIM card:

If you have a 4G/5G phone and SIM, but you’re still using 3G
This usually happens if your phone is set to “3G only” or hasn’t been switched to 4G/5G in the settings. Here is what to do:

Go to Mobile Network Settings

Select 4G/LTE or 5G as your preferred network

Restart your device if needed

If you have a 4G/5G phone but your SIM card is 3G only
If your SIM card is very old, it may not be compatible with 4G or 5G, even if your phone is. This means you’re limited to 3G. Here is what to do:

Visit any of our GO outlets and request a FREE SIM upgrade

Your number will stay the same and the swap takes just minutes

Start enjoying 4G and 5G as soon as you switch
Find your nearest GO Outlet
Activate VoLTE on any of our mobile plans at no extra cost for clearer calls and uninterrupted data.
Take a quick look at your phone’s network settings. If you can’t find 4G or 5G listed, your device might need an upgrade. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a wide range of VoLTE-enabled phones.
If your phone only works on 3G, it’s time for an upgrade. The good news is that we offer a wide range of VoLTE-enabled devices to choose from. Take a look and find the one that’s right for you.
No, our 2G network will stay active. However, for the best speeds, coverage and call quality, we recommend moving to 4G or 5G.
