GO Introduces Malta’s First Device-To-device eSIM Transfer
06 October 2026

Customers can now move their mobile service to a new phone directly from their device, without visiting a GO outlet or using a QR code
GO has become the first operator in Malta to deploy a new entitlement platform that makes managing mobile services directly from customers’ devices simpler and more seamless. The first capability available on the platform is eSIM transfer, which allows customers to move their mobile service from one phone to another in just a few taps.
The launch is the latest step in GO’s ongoing investment in its customer experience and its wider digitalisation strategy. That strategy focuses on removing friction from everyday interactions, simplifying customer journeys and giving customers more ways to help themselves.
Customers with compatible Apple devices running iOS 27 can now transfer their mobile service directly from one device to another in just a few taps. By placing the two devices near each other, customers can complete the transfer through their phone’s settings, without needing to visit a GO outlet, request a replacement SIM, scan a QR code or go through manual provisioning steps.
Customers with compatible devices can also move from a physical SIM to an eSIM through the same streamlined process.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 users will gain access to the functionality in the coming weeks, with support for additional manufacturers to be announced soon.
“Our customers expect technology to make their lives easier, and changing phones should be an exciting moment, not a chore. By being the first in Malta to bring eSIM transfer directly into the device experience, we are removing one more step between our customers and the services they rely on,” said Alison Mercieca, Chief Commercial Officer.
“This is another milestone in our continuous investment in customer experience, and the platform behind it opens the door to many more innovations to come,” she added.
The new capability is powered by GO’s newly deployed entitlement platform, which connects the device’s operating system with GO’s systems to securely confirm a customer’s eligibility and provision the mobile service on the new device.
By embedding the process into the device’s own setup journey, customers can complete the transfer themselves, at a time and place that suits them, while keeping their existing number and mobile service.
eSIM transfer is the first capability to be launched on GO’s new entitlement platform. The technology, supported by agreements with leading device manufacturers and technology vendors, creates a foundation for additional device-based services in the future, including support for connected devices such as smartwatches.
The launch forms part of GO’s continued investment in digitalising its customer experience and simplifying everyday interactions with its services.
