Iċ-Ċaqqufa is the narrative of Rose’s life, born in 1972, into a family dominated by her grandmother Karla, the only breadwinner in the household. Yet, Karla doesn’t push the feminist agenda. She’s more the conservative type with a firm belief that women cannot get anywhere close to a man’s standing in society. This is why Karla refused to accept the birth of a girl into her family.
In Malta’s grassroots back in the 60s and 70s, the battle for recognition of what once was discredited as the ‘weaker’ gender was alive and kicking. This is the backdrop of Malta’s most-watched drama series, Iċ-Ċaqqufa.
