I don’t have any reception on my phone. What can I do?

At times, you may notice that your reception is lacking. As frustrating as that may be, this usually takes place when your mobile is set to Airplane Mode. So the first thing we need to do is determine whether this is so. If Airplane Mode is switched off, try the following steps.

Android

  1. Go to the “Settings” app and then to “Connections”
  2. Next, go to “Mobile networks, followed by “Network Operators”
  3. Confirm that your Network is set to ‘Automatic’. If this is not the case, activate this function by pressing the indicator next to ‘Automatic’. Make sure you are connected to ‘go mobile’

iPhone

  1. Go to the “Settings” app
  2. Next, go to “Mobile Data”
  3. Go to “Mobile Network”
  4. Confirm that your Network is set to ‘Automatic’. If it is not, activate this function by pressing the indicator next to ‘Automatic’. Make sure you are connected to ‘go mobile’

Still no reception? If you’re in an area with weak signal, especially indoors, you can still make and receive calls by enabling VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling on your phone.

VoLTE
VoLTE allows you to make voice calls over the 4G/LTE network, instead of the traditional mobile voice network.

This means you can benefit from:

  • Clearer voice quality
  • Faster call connection times
  • The ability to use mobile data while on a call

Take a look if your mobile is VoLTE compatible and follow these steps to enable VoLTE on your device.

Wi-Fi Calling (VoWiFi)
Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make and receive calls and SMS using a Wi-Fi connection, even if you have little or no mobile signal.

It’s especially ideal if you’re at home or at work with poor indoor reception or in locations such as basements, thick-walled buildings or remote areas.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Reliable calls even without mobile reception
  • Improved call quality indoors
  • No need for third-party apps — calls work through your phone as normal
  • You can still be reached on your mobile number as usual
