Why is 3G switching off?

3G was launched more than 20 years ago and has served us well, but today it’s no longer efficient for the way we use our phones. As part of our commitment to delivering faster, more reliable and future-ready connectivity, we’ll soon be switching off our 3G network. This move is also part of a global transition, as operators worldwide are retiring 3G to make way for next-generation networks.

What you need to do

Here’s how to get ready, based on your device and SIM card:

If you have a 4G/5G phone and SIM, but you’re still using 3G

This usually happens if your phone is set to “3G only” or hasn’t been switched to 4G/5G in the settings. Here is what to do:

Select 4G/LTE or 5G as your preferred network

If you have a 4G/5G phone but your SIM card is 3G only
