Why should I use Wi-Fi Calling?

Some of the benefits include:

What do I need to use Wi-Fi Calling?

Just four things:

  • A Wi-Fi Calling-ready smartphone

Can I use Wi-Fi Calling when travelling abroad?

No, Wi-Fi Calling only works while you’re in Malta.

What happens if I move out of Wi-Fi coverage during a call?

No worries. If your phone supports it and VoLTE is enabled and active, the call will switch to the mobile network so you don’t get cut off.

Not at all since it uses your Wi-Fi connection, not your data allowance.

How will I know if Wi-Fi Calling is working?

Most phones show a Wi-Fi call icon in the status bar or on the call screen when Wi-Fi Calling is active.

Can I make an emergency call over Wi-Fi?

At the moment, emergency calls to 112 are handled by the mobile network (2G/3G). This means:

  • If mobile coverage is available, your emergency call will always go through the mobile network, not Wi-Fi.
  • If mobile coverage is not available, the call will not connect over Wi-Fi.

In the future, emergency calls and other supplementary services will also be supported through VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling.

If your VPN uses a local IP address, Wi-Fi Calling will work, however, if your VPN is set to a foreign IP address, it won’t connect.
