What a better way to mark this year’s Boss Day, than to celebrate our very own Nikhil Patil, CEO at GO plc for the past 36 months.

He has moved from Mumbai, to the States, to Switzerland, Dubai, London and Malta, and many other places in between. He has had a very colourful path so far, being the mind behind strategy, operations, mergers and acquisitions across telecoms companies including GO, Cablenet, BMIT and Interoute.

Before his appointment as a CEO at GO in 2018, he served as a Non-Executive Director of GO, where with the company’s senior management he defined and implemented new strategies that allowed GO to diversify and expand its business both in Malta and Cyprus. He also ventured into the property market where he led Malta Properties Company as CEO for three years.

Here is a glimpse of the man behind the boss and how he perceives the world outside of telecoms.

  1. What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A World Adventurer.

  1. We know you are a book worm, which book changed your life and why?

The Fountainhead, a 1943 novel by Ayn Rand. The protagonist is an individualistic young architect who designs modern buildings and refuses to compromise with an architectural establishment unwilling to accept innovation. He embodies what the author believed to be the ideal man, and his struggle reflects the inherent tension between individualism and collectivism.

  1. What are you most proud about your career at GO?

I am mostly proud of how the Chief Officer team has evolved and the synergies we have built between us. When things work at the top, everything else naturally falls into place.

  1. What invention do you think will be popular in 20 years’ time?

Virtual Reality Meeting Rooms.

  1. Which 3 items would you take with you on a deserted island and why?

My guitar, because who doesn’t love music, my skipping rope, because exercise is essential for the body and mind, and the Arabian Nights book to keep me company.

  1. What songs did you listen to today?

‘Redemption Song’ by Bob Marley and ‘Someone you Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi.

  1. How has the GO team inspired you to be the leader you are today?

By working as One Team and putting our Purpose before anything else.

  1. What would you do if you had a time machine?

Go back in time and instead of buying the first iPod, invest that money in buying shares in Apple.

  1. What is the funniest GO memory you have?

A recent memory is the ‘Chair Grand Prix’ we hosted in the Board Room with the other Chief Officers.

  1. You have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick?

Any song by Bob Marley or U2.

  1. If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

I would choose singing.

Wishing Nikhil a Happy Boss’s Day!

Thank you for challenging the GO team to improve & grow and for keeping everyone aligned, focused and engaged.
